Updated: 7/19/10
I do want to mention that we have had 2 litters born yesterday that I will be getting albums up for shortly. We had a blue litter, 17 babies that we are taking pick of the litter reservations for and we have had our first second generation soy free litter, which both litters will have dumbo and top ear. The second gen litter must be kept soy free, but we are looking at a life expectancy of about 4-5 years with them. A special contact will have to be signed with that litter. First pick of 2 girls is already taken with the soy free litter and first pick of 2 boys has been taken with the blues. I still have first pick of 5 boys and 3 girls with the soy free litter and have first pick of 3 boys and all 5 girls for the blue litter available yet. Please contact me at tami@socialrats.com for more information on how to do first picks. Otherwise, on August 7th, I will start working on normal reservations.
First pick means that, after me, you get to chose what rats you want rather than waiting and getting what is left. We have 17 blues and 13 from our soy free litter.
Pictures are not always possible. At the moment, I am caring for more than 100 rats with little to no help. That is 19 cages of rats and that does include many babies, both male and female, with many dumbos. At this point you have 4 cages of girls to chose from with babies as young as 6 weeks old and 3 cages of boys as well to chose from. We have rats as young as 6 weeks old and rata as old as over a year that, if I can not find them homes, will remain here for the rest of their lives, which could be another 3 years. Keeping rats soy free increases their life span dramatically, possibly living as long as 5 years of age, which is not unheard of with a soy free rat.
Ok, here is the latest:
I will post the albums under the names, so scroll down below the albums for more information.
We have some litters that will be available soon. I will be sexing them inthe next few days and posting pics of them. I do know that I have 1 blue male that we will be adopting out. All litters listed as (father unknown) came to us pregnant, they are NOT accidental litters on our part, but were pregnant when they came into rescue. THe only planned litter in the group is the Donna/Tanner litter. You can see pics of their previous litter on the Previous Litter page.
I also have Donna and Tanner's Second litter (DOB: 5/12/10) that will be ready in a few weeks on June 16th that I will taking reservations for. I will not know for another week who is dumbo and who is not. It looks like we have 7 tan and 7 fawn from this litter. 1 of the tan girls was injured after birth, so she will be staying here so I can ensure that she does not have any lasting effects from the injury.
Kittie's litter (DOB: 5/4/10) (father unknown) has 1 blue male (ear placement unknown) 1 all white, possible himalayam, 2 tan and 4 black marked babies that will be ready on June 8th. THe blue female is reserved, but the blue male is available for adoption. We are taking reservations for this litter, all babies, like mom, are very sweet, social and turning out to be kissers, big time.
CC's litter (DOB 5/8/10) (father unknown) we have 2 black marked babies. They will be ready on June 12th. The blue female is already reserved. Ear placement currently unknown. Taking reservations for the 2 boys. Would like to see them go together. They are now living with Marie, one of my sweet kissy rats and her foster litter. I will try to get pics of her foster litter up this week, they will be available June 1st. When I get the pics up, I will edit this info here.
Midnight's litter (DOB 5/7/10) (father unknown) are all black marked babies, ear placement unknown, will be available for adoption on June 11th.
Candy's Litter (DOB 5/13/10)(father unknown) are in foster care in Wheeling. They will be available for adoption on June 17th.
I will getting pics of babies up as litters in a few days. I will be putting up individual baby pics once their eyes are open and we can tell ear placement. All babies are being socialized. All parents (that we know of) are healthy without issues. For those we do not know the fathers, I am speaking of the mothers are healthy without issue. Kittie in particular is a very loving rat. She was a pulled pregnant feeder and with very minimal work has opened up and become a very loving kissy rat, just as the father of Donna's litter is.
If you would like me to look for a particular gender or marking for you to reserve, please let me know. If you would just like to reserve a pair, then you can reserve them, through PayPal, on the Available page. Just put in from which litter you would like to reserve from and color. I will let you know if someone has already reserved from that litter, but as of this writing, that number is zero and I will update this portion of the site daily.
You can let me know what you are looking for, as far as color, ear placement and gender and I will let you know if I have something that matches what you are looking for and when that litter will be available. You can set up an appointment to meet them and adopt them, if you like the personalities.
I will send out pics, if requested. I am working to try to get some pics up, but most current pics will be put up on our available page. If you are looking for something in particular, please email me and see if I have it, or when I will have it available.
We have a bunch of litters that are available. These are their adoption dates on some of them.
April 7th - 2 litters
April 18th - 3 litters
April 21st
April 25th
All babies will come with a pedigree, if requested. It is $1 extra to have it printed and picked up the day you pick up your rat, or free to have it emailed to you in PDF format. The $1 is ONLY to cover ink, paper and wear and tear on our printer. The cost is not for the pedigree itself, but for the printing of it.
Terms of reservation and adoption:
1. I do not accept checks. You may pay via PayPal either before you pick up (reservation fee) or when you come to pick up, using my computer to do so. You may pay via Money Order through the mail, please contact for mailing address and let me know the day it is mailed so I can place a hold on the rat(s) you are interested in. I will hold for up to 1 week allowing time for the money order to arrive. If it does not arrive within the week, I will release the hold until the money order does arrive. If the rat(s) you were interested in are adopted by the time the money order does arrive, you will be contacted to reserve different rat(s). You may pay cash when you come to pick up.
2. I do not hold rats without a reservation fee being paid. A reservation fee is the adoption fee paid up front. You have up to 2 weeks from the time the adoption fee is paid, or the rat(s) are ready to go home to pick up your rat(s), unless other arrangements are made prior. If you are adopting from 2 different litters, you have from the time the youngest one is ready to go home to pick them up. I have in the past, and will in the future, make arrangements to hold them for a longer time period, but only if this is made before the payment is made. I do not offer extensions.
3. If the rat(s) are not picked up in the time allowed, then the fee paid will be considered a donation and will be forfeit, it will not be refunded. The rat will then be placed back up for adoption and the fee that was paid will be used to help support the rats.
4. I make appointments 7 days a week from 2pm to 9pm. I am willing to work within your schedule as long as you are willing to work within mine.
5. If I feel that a rat is suseptable to the cold (during the winter months) or I know a rat to get sick easily, then I will be willing to prove meds to treat them, just in case they do get sick. I will also provide, free of charge, syringes (no needles) and instructions on how to mix them.
6. You agree that should circumstances change, that you will return the rat(s) rather than attempt to rehome them yourself. You agree to care for them, providing medical treatment when needed. This does not necessarily mean vet care, but does mean that you will not allow an illness to go on for days or weeks before seeking attention for the rat. Even if this means calling me, Tami at 773-934-9949 or emailing me at tami@socialrats.com to seek advice on how to treat them and purchase, if needed, the meds to treat them.
7. You agree to report to me, when a rat passes away, no matter the age or circumstances. I need to know, for my records, date of death, cause of death (if known) and any health issues that the rat had in it's lifetime and if there was vet care involved and who the vet was that treated the rat(s). I need this information only because I know of some vets that have been known to incorrectly diagnose rats, so need to know if the information given is accurate.
8. While I do not have an issue with someone breeding the rats they adopt from me, I do wish to know this before or when the adoption takes place. I do not charge more for rats used for breeding, I do not ask picks of the litters, I would, however, like to know about the litter and would like pics (as in pictures) of the babies at about 4-5 weeks old, if possible. This is to help me understand the genetics of them better and to determine the heath and progress of my own lines. I am also willing to offer advice to the new breeder as well.
9. By adopting or paying a reservation fee, you agree to be bound by these terms. You understand that if the contract created when a reservation fee is paid is violated, by not picking up the rat on time, voids the contact and the fee is forfeit.
10. You understand that when you adopt that you will be required to fill out and sign an adoption agreement that include the above and more. You are welcome to request a copy of this adoption form statement before coming to meet or pick up your rat(s). You understand that by placing your name on the contract, whether you actually sign the second page or not, that you are still bound by the contract and it's contents there within.
